Breithorn summit climb (4164m)

Climb to the summit of the Breithorn above Zermatt. An easy, but very rewarding 4000 meter peak climb.

Rising above Zermatt in the perfect location opposite the infamous Matterhorn, the Breithorn is the perfect first 4000 meter peak for people wishing to push their trekking experience a notch further. With the help of the Zermatt cable car system, the Breithorn is very accessible and a relatively easy trekking peak on snow and gentle glaciers. The climb requires no previous climbing experience and is perfect for people who have just completed our Haute Route Classic trek or our Haute Route East.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1: Breithorn summit climb
Meet with your guide in Zermatt in the morning for equipment check and briefing. You then jump on the cable car to the top of the Klein Matterhorn. From here, your climb starts in ernest. A spectacular snow/glacier walk takes you to the summit ridge and the final ascent to the summit of the Breithorn. You'll use the same route for your descend back to Zermatt.

Note: The one day itinerary above is only suitable if you arrive acclimatised, for instance if you have just completed our Walker's Haute Route Trek. If you are not already acclimatised, we highly recommend that you add a day or two of trekking or mountaineering with one of our guides prior to the Breithorn Climb.
