With regular, inexpensive flights to the Alps it is easier than ever to get away for a winter snowshoeing adventure. Our Weekend Explorer snowshoeing trips are run in the Chamonix Mont Blanc region and is perfect for beginners and experienced snowshoers alike as the exact itinerary will be tailored to the individuals and the current snow conditions.
During the two days snowshoe walking, we will escape the crowds and take full advantage of the snow and weather conditions to find the best snowshoeing routes around. Each day, we will aim to walk to a significant mountain pass, summit or mountain pasture in order to get the best views and maximum satisfaction. At night, we will rest in a comfortable hotel in the Chamonix valley.
The Weekend Explorer snowshoeing trip offers exceptional value and is a popular escape for people with busy lives who find it difficult to take long periods off and for people who wish to ‘dip their feet’ into alpine snowshoe walking before committing to a longer trip or a self-sufficient trip.
The Weekend Explorer snowshoe trips can be organised at any time during the winter and is not exclusive to weekends. Your trip can also be extended if you wish to spend an extra night in Chamonix and/or extra days in the mountains. A popular itinerary of a trip based in the Chamonix valley is shown below.
Brief itinerary:
Day 1:
Arrive Chamonix valley and meet with leader in the evening for welcome and briefing. Night in B&B in the Chamonix valley.
Day 2:
Today’s walk takes us to a small hamlet 20 min’s away from Chamonix, from where we walk up a small and very quiet valley. We follow a mountain stream along the valley until it opens up into an impressive snowy bowl. This is a great spot for lunch and an opportunity to practise a few winter mountaineering skills for those interested. We descent along the same route and return to the Chamonix valley for the night. Night in B&B in the Chamonix valley.
Day 3:
From a small, idyllic village above the Chamonix valley, we ascent through pine forest until we reach a high mountain pasture and old barns at 2000 meters. The views across to the Mont Blanc massif and the Chamonix Valley below are breathtaking. If we have time, we will explore the slopes above the pasture before our descent. Depart Chamonix in the afternoon to catch flights back.
