Getting to Chamonix

A lot of our trips meet in Chamonix Mont Blanc in the French Rhone Alpes region. Chamonix offers spectacular terrain for all mountain activities and is the starting point for many classic treks. Being conveniently located on the border between France, Switzerland and Italy it also offers easy access to many other great areas.

Access to Chamonix by Air:

The nearest, and most practical, airport is Geneva in Switzerland. Geneva airport is only an hours drive from Chamonix and a number of public and private transfer services operate between Geneva airport and Chamonix

Other airports include Grenoble in France and Milan in Italy.

Alpine Treks do not provide flights and transfers to the resort with our trips. In our experience, this offers the most flexibility to our customers.

Transfer from Airport to Chamonix

Alpine Treks can arrange private airport transfers. Please contact us for details.

For public airport transfer services, we recommend the following companies (in no particular order):

Mountain drop-offs: www.mountaindropoffs.com

Chamonix Express: www.chamexpress.com

Cham Van: www.cham-van.com

EasyBus: www.easybus.com

Access to Chamonix by Rail:

The French national railway service (SNCF) is connected to all resorts in the Chamonix valley. For rail bookings andenquiries, please visit the SNCF site: www.voyage-sncf.com

Access to Chamonix by Car:

From most areas, Chamonix is easiest to access via France. The main European motorway network connects to the 'Autoroute Blanche' (A40), which goes directly to Chamonix

From Switzerland, Chamonix may be easiest reached via Martigny and over the two mountain passes Col de la Forclaz and Col des Montets. Note that parts of this journey is on small mountain roads and may not be easy in the winter.

From Italiy, Chamonix is easiliest reached through the Mont Blanc tunnel.
