Private Snowshoe Walks in Chamonix 2022

Private snowshoe walks and treks from half days to multiple days available all winter in the famous Chamonix valley

Hiring a snowshoe guide for a private snowshoe walk or trek means total flexibility for you. Whether you are opting for a half-day walk, a full day walk or a multi-day trek, we'll plan a snowshoe adventure to meet your specific wishes and aspirations. Chamonix Mont Blanc and the surrounding alpine regions offer a huge amount of snowshoeing possibilities from gentle snowshoe walks in the valley to arduous and challenging trips ascending peaks in the area.

Day-by-day itinerary

On a private snowshoe walk, you'll be collected at your accommodation in the Chamonix valley by your guide and taken to the venue. The guide will also drop you off at your accommodation after the walk. A full day typically starts around 9.00 and you will be back by 16.00. A half day can be morning or afternoon and typically lasts 3 hours, either from 9.00 to 12.00 or from 13.00 to 16.00 from collection to drop-off.

On half day walks, the actual walking time is normally around 2 hours and the walks will typically take place at lower elevations, through forest and meadows, but cable cars may be used to reach higher elevations if the group wishes. These walks are also suitable for children aged eight and above accompanied by adults.

On full day walks, the actual walking time is normally 5-6 hours and we typically ascend to a summit, mountain pass or mountain hut, where we can enjoy breath-taking views. We’ll be out all day and eat our lunch in the open so you should bring a picnic lunch. Although, it's also possible to arrange a walk that takes us to a nice hut for lunch.

Private walk prices are quoted as guidelines and may vary slightly depending on the specific itinerary so please contact us to get a competitive quote for your adventure.

What clothing/equipment do I need?

Snowshoes and hiking poles are provided free of charge.

You should bring warm, weather-proof clothing including hat and gloves (ski clothing is perfect) - a layering system is advised. A pair of walking boots with warm socks are essential. You should also bring a small backpack with some water plus a lunch pack for full day treks. And don’t forget sun glasses and sun screen!

Please note that an avalanche transceiver is obligatory for the full day trek. If you don’t have your own, it can be rented for €10 per day.

Boots and other equipment is widely available for hire in the Chamonix valley.

General Information

On private snowshoe walks the itinerary will be tailored to the groups abilities and wishes. Snowshoeing is easy to learn and instruction is provided as necessary.

Bookings must be made online and paid in advance. We highly recommend booking well in advance to ensure availability, particularly in the high season.

We may use a cable car if the group prefers this or if the snow conditions demand it. In this case, members would need to purchase their own cable car ticket. The cost of cable car is around £12 (€15) per person.

Multi-day itineraries and tailor made snowshoe holidays can be arranged. It's also possible to combine snowshoeing and cross country skiing for a multi-activity holiday or short break. Please don't hesitate to get in touch to discuss.
